10 Habits that are drastically aging you and no one told you (& how to fix them)

We would all want to look young and beautiful forever. However, this is not possible, at least not yet. Taking a good look at your daily habits, you will discover that there are a number of things that you are doing, without being aware of how harmful they actually are. Many of our habits contribute to the aging process but the good news is that it is never too late to make a change. #1 Smoking

Everyone knows that smoking is bad for the health but not many people take into consideration what it can do to the skin. It is sufficient to compare the skin of a smoker to the one of a non-smoker and you will understand the difference. The skin is damaged by the toxic substances that cigarettes contain, not to mention facial wrinkles are more common in chronic smokers. The solution to this problem is simple and quite obvious, you need to quit smoking and you need to do this fast.

#2 No SPF

Studies have demonstrated that the number one factor that contributes to the aging process is sun exposure. Upon being repeatedly exposed to the harmful action of UVA & UVB rays, the collagen and elastin at the level of the skin break down. Hence, the exposure to the sun makes the signs of aging more visible. If you are looking to prevent such problems, all you have to do is use a moisturizer that has SPF included. Make sure to apply it on your skin whenever you are going out, including when it’s cloudy or cold outside.

#3 No sunglasses

For many people, sunglasses are a matter of fashion. But, given the damage done by the sun, not wearing sunglasses might be doing more harm than you believe. The skin around the eyes, as well as the one on the eyelids is incredibly thin and it is often more sensitive to the action of the sun. So, start wearing them before it is too late.

#4 Sweets

Too many sweets can have a negative effect at the level of the skin. The more sugar you eat, the more damaged your collagen and elastin fibers are going to be. When a person indulges in such habits, it does not take too long before the skin becomes saggy, with an aged aspect. Plus, there is always the risk of diabetes to worry about. Cut back on sweets and the aspect of the skin will improve.

#5 Salt

Speaking about your diet, a high intake of salt can be just as damaging. When you eat salty foods, you cause water retention at the level of the entire body, including in the skin. Often times, the puffiness under eyes is one of the most obvious signs that you need to cut back on salty foods.

#6 Gum chewing

Chewing gum is one of the worst habits, doing damage to your teeth, stomach and, as confirmed most recently, to your skin. The repetitive motion required for chewing gum actually leads to the wear & tear of the collagen and elastin fibers in the skin, promoting the appearance of premature wrinkles. So, you need to give this habit up as well, otherwise prepare to look older than you really are.

#7 Sleeping position

You might not be aware of this but the sleeping position can influence the health of the skin. If you have become accustomed to sleeping just on one side of the body, you will risk developing more wrinkles on that side. The best sleeping position is on your back, with a pillow that provide adequate support to the neck.

#8 Inadequate skin care routine

If you go to bed with your makeup on or do not clean your face, you cannot expect it to look young and fresh. You need to change your skin care routine right now, following three simple steps: cleanse, tone and moisturize.

#9 Water

Water is necessary for the health of the skin, otherwise the constant dehydration stimulates the appearance of premature wrinkles. You need to increase your water intake, in order to preserve a youthful appearance for as long as it is possible.

#10 Stress

The truth is that stress can have a negative impact on the entire body, including when it comes to the health of the skin. It can activate the immune system and make the person more susceptible to dermatological conditions. Reduce the stress in your life and enjoy a healthy aspect of the skin.
