Our skin is the biggest organ on our bodies and we need to work in order to look after it and keep it looking healthy throughout our lives. Our skin can be very vulnerable and temperamental at times, and sometimes we simply cannot avoid getting some hormonal acne or a blackhead which sucks major. I recently started to suffer with hormonal acne.

If you are sick of having to use acne products to clear your skin every single day, there are other ways you can clear your skin naturally. It is important to remember that what we put into our bodies has a massive effect on our health- so there are food we should eat to keep our skin youthful and glowing.

Oily fish

The first type of food we can eat for better skin is oily fish. Fish is full of vitamin B12 which is essential for producing fatty acids in the body and metabolising amino acids. It is also important for keeping the skin springy and young.

Chia seeds

Chia seeds are a superfood which are often used in porridge, smoothies or even as a chia seed pudding. I love Chia seeds  They are full of Omega-3 fatty acids which keep our cell membranes strong and keeps our skin moisturized throughout the day. They are also great sources of proteins so it is well worth adding these seeds to your diet.

Sweet potatoes

Sweet potatoes are a brilliant starchy vegetable which are amazing for our bodies in so many ways. One of the main benefits of sweet potato is the vitamin A it contains. Vitamin A helps to maintain a youthful complexion and reduces any redness we see on our face.

Almonds

You may already know that vitamin E is a brilliant way to keep our skin looking healthy and hydrated; and walnuts are packed full of this vitamin. It will not only hydrate the skin, but it will also protect them slightly from the sun.

Complex carbs

It is important for us to know that processed foods such as pasta and bread are bad for our skin and can cause the skin to clog up and form things like cysts and blackheads. The best way to deal with this is to replace these foods with complex carbs. Complex carbs are anything from quinoa to beans to brown rice. They are much better for our overall health and will prevent our skin from becoming clogged up and unhealthy.

Orange juice

Vitamin C is one of those vitamins which seems to be great for everything, and when it comes to the health of your skin it is no different. Citrus fruits and juices are full of vitamin C, and this works in the body to protect the skin from free radicals and give the skin a barrier to maintain its strength throughout the years. Vitamin C is also one of the chemicals that produces collagen. Collagen is seen in many skincare products and is a structural protein that helps keep our skin healthy. So make sure you get that morning glass of OJ before work! Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
